Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) has officially launched the production of the world’s first High-Frequency Filter Using XBAR Technology. Developed in collaboration with Resonant Inc., Murata’s subsidiary, the filter combines XBAR with Murata’s proprietary SAW filter technology. This innovative solution delivers both low insertion loss and high attenuation, making it ideal for modern wireless systems including 5G, Wi-Fi 7, and future 6G networks.

As global demand for high-speed wireless connectivity continues to rise, Murata’s new High-Frequency Filter Using XBAR Technology addresses the growing need for performance in higher-frequency applications. New WLAN standards like Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7 are pushing further into these bands to achieve ultra-fast speeds. Traditional filter designs, including BAW and LTCC, often fail to meet the strict requirements of these evolving technologies.

However, Murata’s XBAR-based filter changes the game. It offers strong attenuation while maintaining low signal loss and wide bandwidth. By leveraging a bulk acoustic wave excited through a unique comb-shaped electrode and piezoelectric thin-film structure, the filter effectively eliminates interference even in frequencies above 3 GHz. Consequently, it improves signal clarity, system efficiency, and overall communication quality.

Performance metrics highlight a passband of 5150–7125 MHz, a typical insertion loss of 2.2 dB, and a return loss of 17 dB. Attenuation values include 11 dB at 4800–5000 MHz, 28 dB at 3300–4800 MHz, 27 dB at 7737–8237 MHz, and 26 dB at 10300–14250 MHz.

This High-Frequency Filter Using XBAR Technology is engineered for compact wireless devices like smartphones, wearables, laptops, and gateways. It provides a scalable solution that balances performance with power efficiency and compact design—key to future wireless innovation.

Moreover, Murata plans to expand this XBAR-based architecture for ultra-high frequency bands beyond 10 GHz, ensuring their continued leadership in next-gen communication components. This development underscores Murata’s commitment to pushing wireless performance boundaries with cutting-edge filter technology.
