Wiley, a global leader in content and research intelligence, today unveiled Wiley AI Gateway, a first-of-its-kind interoperable AI-native research intelligence platform built for scientific discovery. This platform gives researchers access to trusted scholarly content from leading publishers through a single endpoint.
Unlike closed ecosystems that lock users into proprietary tools, Wiley AI Gateway emphasizes seamless integration with today’s top AI systems. Anthropic’s Claude, AWS Marketplace, Mistral AI’s Le Chat, and Perplexity all connect directly to the Gateway.
Jay Flynn, Executive VP & GM of Research & Learning at Wiley, remarked, “We transform how scientists use AI for discovery by embedding peer-reviewed content into daily workflows. As AI usage by researchers rose from 57% to 84% in one year, we saw the need to ground AI research in validated sources.”
Advanced Interoperable Research Capabilities
The AI Gateway uses advanced content transformation to convert scholarly and expert data into AI-friendly formats, while preserving citation accuracy, methodology, and peer review integrity. It also employs the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to ensure AI models can understand, synthesize, and cite content reliably.
Currently in beta, the platform offers benefits for:
- Universities & Research Labs – synthesizing cross-publisher literature responses anchored in peer-review.
- Corporate R&D Teams – speeding innovation by providing access to multi-disciplinary, validated insights.
- AI Developers – enabling AI tools built on trusted content streams that reduce hallucinations and bias.
Ecosystem & Publisher Participation
Wiley’s AI Gateway allows any publisher to connect to major AI tools while retaining control and protecting content independence. Publishers such as Sage and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM) both Wiley Atypon customers will join the Gateway network, along with other prestigious publishers.
Lauren Collett, Head of Higher Education Partnerships at Anthropic, said, “Researchers can now blend trusted scientific literature with Claude’s analytical power from code generation to statistical analysis while preserving rigorous research standards.”
Strategic AI Collaborations & Use Cases
Wiley is already deploying the Gateway in key scientific initiatives. The European Space Agency’s Φ-Lab is integrating it into EARTH Virtual Expert (EVE) to infuse AI with up-to-date research content. Wiley also partnered with AWS to launch a generative AI agent for literature search the first publisher-led agent of its kind on AWS. Dan Sheeran, GM of Healthcare and Life Sciences at AWS, noted that making the Gateway accessible via AWS Marketplace helps researchers spend more time innovating and less on sourcing data.
What This Means for Research & AI
Wiley’s AI Gateway marks a move toward unified systems that combine content, data, and AI tools. As AI becomes a key part of scientific workflows, this platform seeks to base innovation on trustworthy, peer-reviewed research. Wiley positions itself at the intersection of publishing and AI. It helps researchers from academia and industry pursue discovery with confidence.
