Mitsubishi Electric Acquires Infostellar to Strengthen Global Ground Station Services

Mitsubishi Electric Wholly Acquires Infostellar to Expand Ground Station Services for Satellite Operators

Mitsubishi Electric completed the acquisition of Infostellar Inc., a deal that will be key to expanding its global ground station services for satellite operators. On July 1, the company officially acquired all outstanding shares of Infostellar, making the cloud-based ground station provider a wholly owned subsidiary. Through this strategic initiative, Mitsubishi Electric aims to enhance its position in the burgeoning space communications market and address the rising need for advanced satellite ground infrastructure.

The acquisition comes as satellite operators continue to build out small satellite constellations around the globe. Hence the demand for robust and scalable ground station networks has increased rapidly. Private sector organizations need a strong communications infrastructure to support satellite operations, data transfer and mission management.

By integrating Infostellar into our portfolio, Mitsubishi Electric will be able to provide enhanced ground station services and offer customers reliable and flexible connectivity solutions. The partnership will also enable both companies to accelerate innovation in satellite communications and expand their global service capabilities.

Combined expertise helps satellite communications infrastructure

With decades of experience building satellite systems and ground infrastructure in Japan and international markets, Mitsubishi Electric has the expertise. The company has developed advanced antenna technologies, satellite tracking systems, communication ground stations, and satellite control platforms over the years. It has also contributed to the design of optical and radio telescopes for astronomical observation.

Infostellar has emerged as a premier supplier of cloud-based Ground Segment as a Service (GSaaS). The company has its own StellarStation™ platform that connects ground stations all over the world using cloud technology. This gives satellite operators centralized access to a virtual network that broadens satellite contact opportunities at multiple locations.

operators to communicate more efficiently with orbiting satellites. This cloud-based model allows Furthermore, the platform provides access to distributed ground station resources and reduces operational complexity for commercial satellite missions.

Mitsubishi Electric’s engineering capabilities and Infostellar’s cloud-native platform lay a stronger foundation for future satellite communication services. With this, customers can expect increased scalability, improved operational efficiency and wider access to global ground station networks.

Partnership aims to bring space communications to the world

Going forward, Mitsubishi Electric and Infostellar aim to speed up the global deployment of ground station infrastructure. They share the goal of building a very reliable, high quality space communications network for satellite operators across the world.

Infostellar’s agile software development capabilities and GSaaS platform are combined with Mitsubishi Electric’s long-standing strengths in satellite development, manufacturing of ground facilities, and complex system integration. The companies expect together to build a next-generation communications ecosystem to support the evolving needs of commercial space missions.

With the increasing number of satellites being deployed, reliable ground infrastructure is becoming more and more critical. “This acquisition will allow Mitsubishi Electric to meet future market needs and provide innovative satellite communication solutions to global markets.
