Lynk and Omnispace Plan to Merge to Deliver Global Direct-to-Device (D2D) Connectivity

Direct-to-Device Connectivity

Lynk Global and Omnispace announced a strategic merger to drive next-generation global direct-to-device (D2D) connectivity. The merger will combine Lynk and Omnispace’s strengths to bridge terrestrial and satellite networks and deliver D2D services worldwide.

According to the companies, SES will become a major strategic shareholder in the merged entity. This partnership is designed to accelerate the rollout of scalable D2D and IoT services. It targets mobile network operators (MNOs), enterprises, and governments.

Omnispace brings 60 MHz of globally coordinated S-band spectrum and high-priority filings with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The company’s licensed mobile satellite spectrum complies with 3GPP standards for non-terrestrial networks (NTN) and spans over one billion people across the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia. Meanwhile, Lynk contributes a patented, low-cost multi-spectrum satellite technology platform able to deliver voice, messaging and data services to more than seven billion unmodified smartphones and IoT devices.

Lynk already maintains relationships with over 50 MNO customers in more than 50 countries. With this merger, the companies aim to enhance their D2D offering by combining Lynk’s technology with Omnispace’s spectrum assets. “We now have the right mix of technology, spectrum and leadership to extend mobile connectivity where and when it’s needed most,” said Ramu Potarazu, CEO of Lynk. “This merger will enable us to accelerate our efforts in delivering seamless, reliable messaging, voice and data services – serving MNOs, as well as consumer, commercial and industrial vehicles, and government and utility sectors worldwide.”

Strategic Merger to Advance Global Direct-to-Device Connectivity

Ram Viswanathan, President and CEO of Omnispace, added: “This merger unlocks the full potential of our global S-band spectrum assets and positions us at the forefront of D2D. By combining Omnispace’s spectrum portfolio with Lynk’s innovative technology, we’re creating a powerful platform for scalable, cost-effective global D2D.”

SES, already an investor in both companies, will deepen its role following the merger. It will provide its multi-orbit network, globally deployed ground infrastructure, and regulatory support. SES CEO Adel Al-Saleh commented: “We see enormous opportunities in D2D and IoT connectivity. The planned combination of Lynk and Omnispace will provide SES with access to new LEO capabilities. These capabilities align with our strategy to diversify into this high-growth segment.”

The transaction is expected to close late this year or early next year, subject to customary approvals and closing conditions. Upon closing, Ramu Potarazu will serve as CEO and Ram Viswanathan as Chief Strategy Officer of the merged entity.
