Roman’s L3Harris-built OTA will carry out three main surveys once it is up and running. First it will look through the crowded galactic center of our Milky Way. The aim of this survey is to build the largest astronomical catalog ever assembled. The telescope will also be able to survey about 12% of the entire sky . Remarkably, it will do this scan in under 18 months. This quick pace will help scientists figure out how fast the universe is growing. Researchers also will examine supernovas that exploded 8 billion years ago.
