GoNetspeed Begins Fiber Construction in 10th State: Rhode Island

Fiber Construction

GoNetspeed has begun construction on a new fiber-optic network in Newport. The project strengthens GoNetspeed’s fiber network expansion efforts and delivers state-of-the-art connectivity to more than 8,200 homes and businesses. As a result, residents gain access to the GoNetspeed fiber construction and internet speeds reaching two gigabits. The upgrade also positions Newport for long-term digital growth as demand for high-speed broadband increases.

Construction is underway, and the first customers will come online in early 2026. Service will expand gradually, moving through neighborhoods in phases. Each phase will extend the GoNetspeed fiber network to more homes and businesses across the community.

“We can’t wait for Newport to experience GoNetspeed’s speed and fast, reliable service. Our make-ready work is just the first step in powering Newport with fiber-optic internet designed especially for education, work, entertainment, telehealth, and more. The possibilities are endless,” said Richard Clark, GoNetspeed President and CEO. “Fiber is the internet technology of the future, and we are gearing up to connect Newport to unmatched speeds and a renewed potential for economic growth.”

Investment Fuels Digital Expansion Across Newport

GoNetspeed recently marked Rhode Island as its 10th state in its growing footprint. Earlier this year, the company announced a major investment in Newport’s digital infrastructure. The expansion includes $3.9 million from GoNetspeed and a $9 million award from the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation’s Capital Projects Fund. Together, these investments support direct fiber connections to homes and businesses throughout the city.

The company GoNetspeed is continuing to expedite the installation of fiber optics across eleven states throughout the U.S. Access to faster connections with a higher level of dependability is still the highest priority of GoNetspeed. All of GoNetspeed’s customers receive symmetrical upload and download speeds of 500 megabits per second (Mbps) to 2 gigabits per second (Gbps)—and this level of service supports remote learning, online telehealth visits, and the ability to perform high-volume transactions through digital channels.

GoNetspeed continues to focus on providing fiber service to all the areas where it operates and remains committed to developing a long-term plan to produce scalable, future-ready broadband infrastructure throughout the United States through innovation and superior customer service. The Newport project is an example of the company’s long-term vision for scalability and future-readiness.
