Entrust, a world leader in identity-driven security solutions, has collaborated with PlaySafe ID to enhance digital identity verification in gaming. The partnership brings forth a privacy-focused solution that improves onboarding and user security within online gaming communities.
The partnership enables PlaySafe ID to utilize Entrust’s Identity Verification platform to provide secure and frictionless player onboarding. The solution provides authenticated identities without the need to jeopardize user anonymity—blending security and privacy.
By using this system, players upload a picture of their government ID and a brief video selfie. Entrust authenticates the document and cross-matches it to the video, verifying the presence and identity of the user. This protects against stolen IDs and deepfakes and allows for rapid and accurate digital identity verification.
After approval, users are issued an anonymized, game-agnostic digital ID through PlaySafe ID. This ID enables access to trusted matchmaking with authenticated users, creating a secure and equitable gaming environment.
This collaborative effort looks to address increasing issues in online gaming such as bot behavior, cheating, hacking, and abuse. Concurrently, it facilitates adherence to developing standards, such as the UK’s new Online Safety Act and Protection of Children Codes.
“Gaming should be safe, inclusive, and enjoyable,” said Andrew Wailes, CEO of PlaySafe ID. “Entrust’s identity technology enhances both security and user experience. Together, we’re building an environment where fair play and digital safety go hand-in-hand.”
As web-based fraud grows more sophisticated, the decision represents a significant milestone in recasting the role of digital identity verification in enabling safe gaming. According to Entrust’s chief compliance officer, Samuel Steg, “Our technology provides high-assurance KYC while facilitating seamless onboarding. It demonstrates our shared vision of establishing trust in digital spaces.
With July 2025 approaching, this partnership prepares game developers to comply with the new child protection laws. More significantly, it raises the bar in terms of accountability and safety for online gaming.
