Corinex Plexigrid Partner to Advance Digital Twin Technology for Smarter Grid Visibility

Corinex and Plexigrid team up to deliver the most accurate digital-twin solution

Corinex Corp. and Plexigrid S.L. have formed a strategic partnership to introduce Corinex Plexigrid Intelligence, a new digital twin platform for low- and medium-voltage power grids. The platform combines highly accurate and granular power data to enhance grid visibility, improve flexibility and enable smarter utility operations.

Corinex Plexigrid Intelligence platform responds to increasing needs for smart power distribution. Electricity demand is being driven by artificial intelligence and industries are speeding up electrification. Meanwhile, transportation, heating and cooling, and distributed energy resources are expanding rapidly. Thus, distribution system operators are faced with the real-time management of more and more complex and bidirectional electricity networks. The new solution offers the visibility, intelligence and operational control required to respond to these changing challenges.

Corinex has products that monitor and interact with the physical power grid. At the same time, Plexigrid offers software to model, analyze and optimize grid operations. These complementary technologies link real-time field intelligence and digital twin analysis to allow utilities to identify available capacity, monitor voltage conditions and respond more effectively to network constraints.

BPL Technology Increases Digital Twin Accuracy

The solution leverages the Corinex Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) architecture and sophisticated edge computing capabilities. This means that sensing, processing and intelligence are spread across the electricity network. This approach delivers Plexigrid’s digital twin platform with richer and more accurate data, collected directly from grid assets.

Historically, transmission grids have relied on high-resolution instrumentation and manually maintained electrical topology for full observability. But applying the same model to distribution grids would require massive investment and a huge expansion of the workforce. Thus, most of the distribution grid nodes are not fully observed or not modeled at all.

Plexigrid solves this problem by integrating its digital twin platform with Bayesian AI. The software leverages existing Distribution System Operator infrastructure such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) to reconstruct the electrical topology and grid conditions. These capabilities provide much greater visibility and control, but are still short of the time resolution provided by transmission control systems.

Corinex enhances this approach with its BPL technology, embedding low-latency, high-resolution instrumentation at meters, feeders, transformers and other grid assets. In addition, the Corinex Grid Intelligence Node installed on low voltage lines increases measurement points and provides detailed information on voltage, loading, power quality and upcoming operational constraints. This provides utilities with a much clearer and accurate picture of the physical network.

Distributed Intelligence for Contemporary Utility Operations

The joint platform also provides a distributed intelligence architecture that processes data near substations, feeders and other grid assets. This enables utilities to take advantage of accelerated data validation, localized analysis and earlier detection of abnormal operating conditions. At the same time, the platform continues to support broader forecasting, planning, reporting and integration with existing utility systems.

It connects real-time field information with digital models and operational decision making in a distributed intelligence layer. This helps utilities increase asset utilization, improve planning accuracy and make better investment decisions while meeting reliable grid performance.

“Utilities need more than connectivity and more than a cloud-based view of the network. They need an intelligence layer that can observe the physical grid, understand changing conditions, and support action at the speed required by modern distribution systems,” said Peter Sobotka, Founder and CEO of Corinex Corp. “Corinex delivers BPL, GIN, and edge capabilities across the grid. Plexigrid adds advanced digital twin and flexibility management capabilities that drive better capacity, investment, and operational decisions.”

“This partnership allows our models to be continuously grounded in high-resolution information from the physical network. Combining that information with distributed processing and advanced grid analytics creates a stronger foundation for planning, flexibility, and day-to-day operations.” said Alberto Méndez, CEO and Co-founder of Plexigrid.
