After using the Calix platform to create the Calix Agent Workforce, CoastConnect is expanding its AI capabilities. The southern Mississippi electric cooperative achieved 20 percent residential subscriber growth within 18 months. CoastConnect now invests in Calix Agent Workforce Cloud to accelerate secure agentic workflows. The company also worked with Calix Success to strengthen organizational readiness.
This approach helps CoastConnect prepare its teams before deploying advanced AI capabilities. It also supports faster adoption and quicker returns from its technology investments. Calix, Inc. (NYSE: CALX) announced the development in San Jose, California. CoastConnect plans to use the AI-native Calix One platform across residential, business, and community markets.
The cooperative aligned its data, teams, and operational processes before expanding its AI strategy. As a result, CoastConnect can activate secure agentic workflows with greater operational confidence.
“With Calix, we can accelerate everything we do, from how information flows across teams and what decisions are made to how we deliver the personalized experiences that keep our members choosing CoastConnect,” said Chris Rhodes, CoastConnect CEO.
CoastConnect Builds Growth Across Multiple Markets
Consistent has been CoastConnect’s use of Calix technology to drive growth strategies to measurable results. The cooperative implemented SmartHome to deliver unique experiences for residential subscribers. That approach allowed CoastConnect to grow residential subscribers by 20 per cent in 18 months. The co-op also experienced a 60 percent increase in engagement with the CommandIQ mobile app.
That rise in engagement was driven by automated provisioning. Customer experience improved with billing automation and self-service for subscribers. Meanwhile, CoastConnect also expanded its small business market share by way of SmartBiz. Within weeks the co-op had already reached 20 percent of its first-year goal. CoastConnect also rolled out its SmartTown public Wi-Fi across its footprint. Today, the program serves 42 sites in 29 communities.
The cooperative uses these initiatives to provide secure digital experiences across a variety of markets. They also give a stronger operational foundation for future AI adoption. CoastConnect’s focus was not on AI being another layer of technology but on preparing the organization. The cooperative partnered with Calix Success to optimize processes in marketing, support, and operations.
Teams utilized real-time data and operational knowledge to optimize existing processes. They also improved installation activities and automated manual batch processes . These changes positioned the organization to better handle Calix Agent Workforce and secure agentic workflows.
AI Readiness Facilitates Quicker Deployment of Agentic AI
Before deploying AI at scale, CoastConnect invested in training its employees. Within the past nine months, employees have completed 70 “AI Academy” courses on Calix University.
Training was centered around the Calix Agent Workforce Leadership Playbook. It helped staff get a better sense of how to work with artificial intelligence (AI) tools. This preparation enables employees to spend more time on strategic decisions. It also reduces the amount of time teams spend on repetitive operational tasks.
Chris Rhodes, president and chief executive officer at CoastConnect, said: “We didn’t want to wait for AI to arrive before figuring out how to put it to work across our business. That’s why we invested the time with Calix Success long before deployment—ensuring our teams and operations were ready to turn AI into real outcomes. With Calix One and Agent Workforce Cloud, we can accelerate everything we do, from how information flows across teams and what decisions are made to how we deliver the personalized experiences that keep our members choosing CoastConnect.”
John Durocher, chief operations officer at Calix, said: “To get the highest value from agentic AI, organizations must reimagine the way work gets done. By investing in AI readiness with Calix Success—optimizing workflows, strengthening their data foundation, and upskilling employees—CoastConnect is now set up to deploy agentic workflows with precision for a faster path to ROI. We are proud to support CoastConnect as they leverage Calix One to accelerate growth through experiences and compete and win in their markets.”
The strategy allows CoastConnect to deploy Calix Agent Workforce across its entire operation. It also builds a structured path to broader AI automation. Calix Success and Calix One are designed to turn AI readiness into measurable business outcomes for CoastConnect. The cooperative can now build on its existing digital transformation efforts and extend secure agentic workflows.
These capabilities are expected to drive stronger experiences across residential, business and community markets, the company said. The approach also provides CoastConnect with a platform to compete in an increasingly AI-driven telecommunications environment.
Calix One brings AI capabilities to the operational workflows of service providers. CoastConnect’s development is an example of how organizational readiness can enable practical AI adoption. The cooperative’s strategy is people, processes, data, and technology. Together, these pieces form the foundation you need to deploy AI more effectively.
So Calix Agent Workforce is the next step in CoastConnect’s broader digital transformation strategy. The cooperative can expand its AI-powered operations using its existing Calix investment. Calix said its AI-native Calix One platform and Calix Success can help service providers turn AI readiness into measurable business results.
