Black Duck, a global leader in AI application security, has introduced key upgrades to its AI assistant, Black Duck Assist™, during Black Hat 2025. The enhanced assistant is now seamlessly integrated into the Code Sight™ IDE plugin, enabling real-time security scanning and fixes for AI-generated code.
According to Gartner, AI-driven development delivers the most impact when paired with tools like AI code security assistants. These tools address speed mismatches between writing, scanning, and testing code.
With this update, Black Duck Assist scans code instantly as developers write or AI generates it. It detects security flaws and intellectual property risks on the spot. This process allows developers to resolve issues early, improving workflow efficiency.
Moreover, the assistant now offers AI-based summaries of vulnerabilities, smart code analysis, and fix suggestions all directly in the IDE. Developers can ship secure, compliant code quickly without switching platforms or waiting on security teams.
In addition to standard IDEs such as Eclipse, IntelliJ, and Visual Studio, the plugin now works with AI-driven editors like Cursor and Windsurf. As a result, teams can confidently use code from AI tools like GitHub CoPilot and Claude Code while maintaining strong security standards.
Black Duck also added natural language query support in both the IDE and its Polaris™ platform. Now, developers can easily retrieve project data, testing trends, or product functionality insights using simple queries.
“These enhancements reflect our deep commitment to empowering developers with secure, AI-augmented tools,” said Dipto Chakravarty, Chief Product and Technology Officer at Black Duck. “By embedding Black Duck Assist into daily workflows, we’re helping teams build safer code faster.”
