Aeroporti di Roma (ADR) has unveiled a new AI-powered Virtual Assistant to enhance the passenger experience at Rome Fiumicino Airport. The assistant, developed with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Storm Reply, offers real-time support and travel information.
The Virtual Assistant sits on WhatsApp and ADR’s website, delivering flight updates, terminal recommendations and multilingual assistance. It aims to serve the roughly 50 million annual passengers smoothly and efficiently.
ADR used AWS’s Generative AI Innovation Center and Storm Reply’s technical expertise to craft a secure multi-agent architecture. They built it using Amazon Bedrock and other AWS AI tools to handle complex passenger queries securely and at scale.
“From the first ‘Buongiorno’ to the last ‘Arrivederci’, we aim to combine Italian hospitality with technological innovation,” said Emanuele Calà, Senior Vice President Transformation & Technology at ADR.
The Virtual Assistant offers features such as live flight status updates, parking availability checks, transport service info, baggage tracking, and personalized terminal-service suggestions. It supports multilingual interactions to serve international travelers.
By deploying this tool, ADR aims to streamline airport operations and improve satisfaction for travelers navigating one of Europe’s busiest hubs.
