RingCentral OpenAI Collaboration is revolutionizing enterprise software development, delivering AI-native innovation to teams throughout the enterprise. With RingCentral OpenAI Collaboration, employees with diverse technical expertise can develop complete software projects with ChatGPT Work and Codex. “In addition, the RingCentral OpenAI Collaboration shows how AI can accelerate product development and democratize software development across the enterprise.
RingCentral, a global leader in AI-powered customer engagement, today announced the results of its company-wide AI-Native Challenge. The program inspired thousands of employees, engineers and non-engineers alike, to build entire software projects from scratch. The company has opened up the challenge to all departments, rather than restricting it to technical teams.
The initiative was sponsored by the Office of the CEO to boost adoption of AI-powered development to a wider audience. Participants dealt with all the phases of the software life cycle during the challenge. They planned projects, created applications, tested, wrote documentation, did continuous integration and deployment and completed production releases. In addition, ChatGPT Work and Codex were trusted partners in development, not just tools for generating code.
This method showcased the ability of AI to simplify complex development processes and improve productivity. Besides, employees gained hands-on experience in creating working applications irrespective of their technical expertise. The challenge also further reinforced RingCentral’s commitment to building an AI-first culture that encourages experimentation, collaboration and continuous innovation.
AI-Native Development Speeds Software Innovation
In the announcement, RingCentral made the point that AI-native development is more than automated coding. It helps with all phases of product development, including planning, architecture, design, development, verification, and deployment. Employees can therefore turn ideas into production-ready software much faster than traditional development methods.
“AI-native development is not simply ‘AI writes code,'” said Kira Makagon, President & Chief Operating Officer at RingCentral. “It’s about accelerating the entire development loop, by aiding people across all phases of the development lifecycle: product definition, design, architecture, coding, verification, and deployment. Codex and ChatGPT Work made product development accessible to people with very different technical backgrounds, and dramatically reduced the time and friction required to deliver tangible outputs. Using AI to build AI is how we shorten the time between an idea internally and a feature our customers rely on.”
OpenAI also recognized the broader impact of the initiative on enterprise innovation and workforce capabilities.
“AI-native companies aren’t defined by how many engineers they have – they’re defined by how many people can turn ideas into working software,” said Denise Dresser, Chief Revenue Officer at OpenAI. “RingCentral shows what’s possible when AI development is put in the hands of an entire organization. With ChatGPT Work and Codex, employees across the business are building, shipping, and learning by doing – helping create a culture where product development becomes a capability for everyone, not just engineering teams.”
The RingCentral OpenAI Collaboration represents part of the company’s broader AI strategy. RingCentral continues using artificial intelligence internally to accelerate product development while enhancing customer-facing solutions. These include AI Receptionist (AIR), AI Virtual Assistant (AVA), and AI Conversation Expert (ACE). As a result, the company has improved development efficiency and reduced the time required to introduce innovative AI-powered products to customers.
