Abstract

This ESG Technical Review documents the detailed evaluation of Quest QoreStor with Veeam. ESG evaluated how the Quest QoreStor solution provides easy installation and management, cyber resiliency, and enhanced performance.

The Challenges

ESG market research reveals that modern organizations view IT downtime from at least two different perspectives—time, and business—and involve factors such as lost revenue and lost productivity. From a time perspective, the duration of an IT outage can have critical consequences for business. In fact, for many organizations, one hour of downtime can be a very long time. According to ESG research, more than half (57%) of respondents reported that they cannot tolerate loss of mission-critical applications for a full hour, while 15% stated that their organizations can tolerate no downtime for these crucial applications ever. 1

From a business perspective, IT downtime can affect organizations in several ways. Figure 1 shows the impacts that organizations believe can result from application downtime or lost data. At first glance, it might seem surprising that loss of employee productivity was a more common response than loss of business revenue or damage to brand integrity. However, it’s important to remember that organizations such as hospitals, utilities, and a wide range of service industries must continue to pay salaries—and costs continue to accrue even when staff are idle—so it’s essential for organizations to maintain employee confidence. In fact, based on ESG research, staff are deemed so valuable that loss of employee confidence (34%) was a slightly more commonly cited response than loss of revenue (32%). 2
