1. What is an ‘edge cloud’?

An “edge cloud” is where data is computed at the edge of a network, divorced from a data center. Information is processed on servers outside of the central structure of the cloud. But cloud technology is constantly evolving, and the definition of the edge moves like the cloud’s shadow.

2. How does an edge cloud work?

With edge computing, edge devices can be anything from a computer to a half rack of gear to a bare metal machine. The data from these devices is processed in a gateway server geographically close to the source. It is also shared with and analyzed at the nearest data center, connecting it to the broader cloud.
