Five Must-Have Data Integration Capabilities for Your Cloud Data Warehouse

Cloud data warehouse and data lake providers offer numerous options

As organizations seek to become more competitive, they are often moving to cloud data warehouses (CDWs) and cloud data lakes (CDLs) to help manage large volumes of diverse data and perform advanced analytics. Respondents to TDWI surveys agree that the cloud is the future of data management, and they realize that cloud platforms are a necessary part of their modernization journey to support data and analytics. CDWs and CDLs are already in the mainstream phase of adoption, according to TDWI research.

Not only are organizations utilizing a cloud platform, but in many cases they are using multiple cloud providers to fit their needs (see Figure 1). Multicloud deployments occur when an organization uses multiple cloud providers to deliver infrastructure, applications, and key business functions. Instead of a business using one vendor for everything (i.e., cloud hosting, storage, and the full application stack), in a multicloud configuration they use several. For example, almost 55 percent of respondents in a recent TDWI survey agreed that a multicloud environment is the future of analytics. In TDWI research, we see that the average number of cloud platforms used by any single organization is two, although this means many use more. These often include platforms from providers such as AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, and others.
