Semtech Corporation, a global leader in high-performance semiconductors, Internet of Things (IoT) systems, and cloud connectivity solutions, has announced an expanded partnership with Skylo Technologies, a pioneer in direct-to-device satellite connectivity. Together, the companies have launched the industry’s first complete device-to-cloud IoT solution that seamlessly integrates terrestrial and satellite networks under a single vendor ecosystem.

Addressing Connectivity Gaps in Global IoT Deployments

For years, global IoT expansion has faced a key challenge. Devices lose connection when they move beyond cellular coverage areas. This has slowed down important applications like asset tracking, agricultural monitoring, and remote utility management.

Semtech’s latest offering solves this issue by combining Skylo-certified HL7810 and HL7812 Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) modules, the Smart Connectivity Premium SIM with integrated Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) access, and unified management via the AirVantage® platform. This integration allows devices to automatically switch between terrestrial and satellite networks. This ensures uninterrupted connectivity anywhere in the world.

According to ABI Research, IoT-NTN connections are expected to grow more than 25% annually through 2030, signaling significant market momentum for solutions like this.

Simplifying Global IoT Connectivity

“Semtech is our first partner to deliver Skylo-certified modules with integrated network access,” said Tarun Gupta, Chief Product Officer and Co-Founder at Skylo. “By embedding Skylo’s satellite network directly into Semtech’s Smart Connectivity platform, we’re making NTN IoT as simple as ordering a traditional cellular solution.”

Rupa Datta, Vice President of IoT Connected Services at Semtech, added, “By combining terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks, we’re solving real connectivity challenges across industries—from logistics and maritime to agriculture and energy. With this innovation, businesses can focus on their goals instead of dealing with complex connectivity issues. It’s now truly one SIM, one contract, and uninterrupted connectivity.”

Key Features and Benefits

  • Automatic network switching between terrestrial and satellite coverage
  • Single contract for multiple connectivity types
  • Unified management through the AirVantage® platform
  • Comprehensive support from a single vendor Semtech

The HL7810 LPWA module supports LTE-M, NB-IoT, and NTN connections, while the HL7812 adds 2G fallback for reliability. The Smart Connectivity Premium SIM offers access to more than 600 4G LTE and 5G networks in over 190 countries. It also includes Skylo’s satellite NTN coverage, which spans 36 countries and 60 million square kilometers.

The solution is currently open for testing with qualified partners, with general availability expected in November 2025.
